Goggle Girl Gallimaufry
2024
30" x 30"
Statement
Quilt is based on my favorite photo of my daughter, Chloe, when she was three. She loved the ocean, but not the saltwater stinging her eyes. Demonstrating her early problem solving skills, she discovered that wearing adult sized goggles upside down fit on her face much better. Her portrait is created from a gallimaufry of six-pieced blocks representing her multifaceted being. She's still solving problems today as computer scientist!
Technique
Each 2.25” block is pieced with at least six pieces of fabric, backed with interfacting, sewn together on diagonal grid, and quilted using stitch-in-the-ditch.
Materials
Upcycled men's shirts, remnants from daughter's dress scraps, vintage commercial fabric.
