Bright colors inspire me, while the juxtapositions of patterns in every day objects and scenery fascinate me. While my primary media is watercolor, I do love to experiment with other mediums, particularly repurposed items. As my work has evolved, I have found that my paintings are becoming more about patterns and simplified rhythms.
The immediacy of watercolors is both challenging and inspiring. Through the use of vivid pigments, my watercolor paintings enhance the ordinary and distill the essence of the subject matter, translating images into colorful abstractions.
As my watercolors evolve, I find my paintings becoming ever more about patterns and simplified rhythms, much like quilts. Working with colors and patterns, recycling fabrics and other materials, and auditioning fabrics is a enjoyable shift from the paper and paints of watercolors.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, I have lived all over the U.S. and in Europe. Art has always been a part of my life, albeit sometimes more of an underlying current rather than a full stream. I have explored several other careers, utilizing my creative skills in both military and corporate environments. Many art classes throughout the years and across the country supplement my formal education, which includes both an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, Philadelphia PA and a B.S. in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I have lived all over the world, and these varied locations have all influenced my work, which can be found in both private and public collections.
